Our People: From refugee to helping settle refugees in Christchurch

Ahmed Tani walked for 5 months through war-torn Somalia fearing he could die at any moment. With no money or food, he eventually found safety in Ethiopia, and relocated to New Zealand 20 years ago. His tireless work to help other refugees and the establishment of the Canterbury Refugee Resettlement and Resources Centre saw him made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in this year’s honours list.
