Tech eye up Chatham Cup

CHAMPIONS: Cashmere Tech celebrate winning the Southern League title at the weekend.

Cashmere Technical can book a spot in their first Chatham Cup final since they won back-to-back titles in 2014.

Tech wrapped up the Southern League title at Garrick Park at the weekend with a 2-0 win over Coastal Spirit.

There will be cause for an even bigger celebration if they topple Porirua’s Western Suburbs at the same venue on Saturday.

The season is getting closer to becoming an extremely rare one in Tech’s history. They are now just three wins away from completing the quadruple. They have already wrapped up the Mainland Premier League and Southern League titles, and will meet Coastal in the English Cup final at English Park on Tuesday night.

There is also the rare chance of a potential all-Mainland Football Chatham Cup final. The other semi-final will see Nelson Suburbs host Auckland’s Birkenhead United. If Tech and Nelson can set up a final, there’s a chance Christchurch could host its first Chatham Cup final since 2013.
