Incredible before and after photos have been released showing the enormity of the work involved to get the road between Christchurch and Picton open.
The photos are on the NZ Transport Agency website and show the devastating impact of last year’s November 14, 7.8-magnitude earthquake on State Highway 1 between Christchurch and Picton.
The road will open for the first time next Friday.
More than 40 landslides fell as a result of the magnitude-7.8 earthquake on November 14 last year shutting of Kaikoura until the southern entrance was cleared.
NZTA said while the road will be reopened, sightseers should stay away.
