StarWars themed Jump Jam places at nationals

THE SABER SISTER: who won third place in the year 7 and 8 open grade of the National Jump Jam competition in Auckland.

A team of Queenspark School pupils finished third at the national jump jam competition with their unique Star Wars theme.

The Saber Sisters took out several other awards at the event, including distinction for presentation, technical execution and costuming, and excellence awards for creativity and sportsmanship.

They also received a standing ovation from the judges.

Previously the school has only ever competed in the novice grade.

It was the first time there has ever been a Star Wars themed performance in the jump jam competition.

Teacher and coach Karen Pearce is a Star Wars fan and decided on the idea because it was something different that had never been done before.

The team of year 7 and 8 pupils travelled to Auckland for the competition, which took place at Westlake Boys’ High School.

The performance included a Darth Vader character and lightsabers as props.

The national event takes place every two years and the team was required to submit a video audition to gain entry to the competition.
