Mayor, Minister have first meeting

FIRST OF MANY: Minister for Greater Christchurch Regeneration Megan Woods met with Mayor Lianne Dalziel, deputy mayor Andrew Turner and city councillor Raf Manji last week.

Mayor Lianne Dalziel met with new Minister for Greater Christchurch Regeneration Megan Woods on Friday to discuss priorities for the city.

Ms Dalziel said the meeting was the first of many to come. She said Dr Woods had a clear understanding of the issues Christchurch is facing. “Most importantly, it was a great start to forming a successful working partnership between the new Government and the city.”

Ms Dalziel said the new Government had “synergies” with the city council’s strategic directions, including accelerating elements of the post-earthquake recovery not fully funded previously.

She said the city council was pleased the Government made a commitment to hold an inquiry into the Earthquake Commission, and to work with the Canterbury District Health Board and other agencies to address mental health.

“I also want to pay tribute to Hon Nicky Wagner, who stepped into the role just months before the election. She achieved a lot in a short time and I wish her well,” Ms Dalziel said.
