A new community shed planned for Heathcote could go on the former library site.
Heathcote Valley Community Association committee member Jackie Foulkes said a survey showed most residents favoured the site at 8 Martindales Rd as it was easily accessible, close to the community centre and central to walk to.
The former library was demolished following the February, 2011 earthquakes and the site is currently vacant.
City council staff are looking into the suitability of the location and will report back to the Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board.
Local resident Keith Jenkins is behind the shed idea.
He’s organised a public meeting to discuss the setting up of the shed, and to answer questions from interested parties.
A regional representative of the New Zealand Menzshed executive will be present to explain how various styles of shed perform.
The meeting is on Tuesday November 21, 6.30-8.30 at the Heathcote Community Centre.
