Loose change from generous patrons stopping by at a hotel in Lincoln has raised more than $2000 for the town’s fire brigade.
The Lincoln Volunteer Fire Brigade broke open a helmet of cash on Sunday, after it had been sitting at the bar of The Famous Grouse Hotel for about 18 months.
The $2040 will go towards equipment needed by the brigade.
Station officer Steve McLennan said he would like to thank the patrons at the hotel for their generosity.
Mr McLennan said while the brigade gets funding from Fire and Emergency New Zealand there is always something extra needed in the community.
The brigade has another helmet at the Tai Tapu Hotel and is hoping to set up others at The Laboratory and Springston Hotel.
The Famous Grouse Hotel manager Will Stock said it is good how much has been contributed and will have the helmet ready to collect further donations.
“The guys do a good job so it is good to be able to give back,” he said.
