Chance to get to know Selwyn better

BIG ATTRACTION: The Springfield doughnut will be one of the stops on the Show Me Selwyn bus tours.

Bus tours are being offered to Selwyn residents interested in getting to know their district better.

The Show Me Selwyn tours have been developed out of the district council’s newcomers and migrants strategy, and aim to welcome those new to Selwyn and help them get to know what’s in their backyard.

Connecting Communities co-ordinator Tyla Harrison-Hunt said research carried out between 2014 and 2016 showed a need for more opportunities for newcomers to gain access to information about their new home and connect with other newcomers and established residents.

“All Selwyn residents are welcome to get to know our beautiful district while making new connections,” he said.

From November to February four trial trips will take place, with room for 35 passengers on each bus trip.

The destinations will include historical landmarks, tourist attractions, and townships, along with opportunities to enjoy the Selwyn countryside. There are two different routes.

Foothills and Mountains tour will go through the Malvern and central Selwyn area, with stops including a visit to Springfield’s famous doughnut, followed by a guided tour and lunch at Homebush Stables. The two dates are November 11 and January 13. Lake to Pā will take passengers on a trip around the Ellesmere area, stopping at the Lincoln market, Taumutu’s Ngati Moki Marae and Taumutu beach. The two dates are December 9 and February 10.

•Tickets cost $5 per person from eventbrite.co.nz. For more information email showmeselwyn@selwyn.govt.nz, phone 347 2956, or see the district council’s Facebook page, Selwyn DistrictCouncil.
