Meeting Oprah Winfrey was not on Bronwynne Jackson’s radar when she joined Weight Watchers a year ago.
But last month, the Rangiora woman did just that after winning a trip of a lifetime to the United States.
She was one of eight winners in the Weight Watchers Better Together prize draw, which included a trip to California to meet the American talk show host and philanthropist.
She has been a member of Weight Watchers for about a year and has so far lost 9.7kg.
Ms Jackson , 55, entered by referring a friend to Weight Watchers.
Last month’s trip included a five-day, four-night retreat at Bacara Resort and Spa in Santa Barbara, California.
During her stay, the mother of three met other winners from across the globe and enjoyed meals, fitness classes, spa treatment, and sight seeing.
“I am over the moon to have won; it’s just amazing. I thought I had won for New Zealand only, and hadn’t realised I had won for both New Zealand and Australia. To be selected is just surreal!”
But perhaps one of the most exciting moments was when she got to meet Oprah, who has lost more than 18kg following the Weight Watchers programme.
“Meeting Oprah was an inspiration.”
It wasn’t the only connection Oprah has had to New Zealand this year.
She along with Hollywood stars Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling were in Central Otago last month to shoot Disney movie A Wrinkle in Time.
The prize draw was launched in May to celebrate the strength of support on the road to health, and the success members’ had experience in the programme.
Ms Jackson said the Weight Watchers’ theme of “every day eating, and every day food” was the key to her success, as well as the scanning app.
Both ensured she was able to make simple, healthy choices.
“Weight Watchers has helped me to love myself. I’m starting to feel really good about myself, and my health. My confidence is growing day to day,” she said.
“I’m so happy with my success with Weight Watchers to-date. I look forward to gaining more confidence as I continue my journey.”
