Children put on matariki play

DRESS UP: Max Wieck-Brouwers dressed as a warrior.

Glitter, coloured paper, crayons and paint were amongst the tools pre-schoolers from the Bishopdale YMCA were armed with when creating a Matariki play.

Last Thursday, the children, aged from six months to six years old, put on a production for parents and staff to celebrated the Maori New Year.

Matariki was introduced to the children through the legend of Tamarereti and his fishing adventure.

The YMCA children spent the month practising songs and creating artworks and props for our very own rendition of The creation of the night sky.

Whanau of the children made a crowd of more than 50 people watching on.
