Two men assaulted in separate attacks

A man is lucky to be alive after crashing through a pole and fence and rolling a vehicle into a paddock on Leeston and Lake Rd.

Two men were arrested after they allegedly assaulted another man in Shirley on Friday night.

The victim was walking along Golf Links Rd at about 8.47pm when he was hit in the face by two men.

The offenders ran off toward The Palms shopping centre where they were arrested a short time later by police.

They will appear in the district court at a later date, a police communications spokeswoman said.

Earlier in the evening police responded to a report of a man being “king hit” in Aranui.

The victim said he was assaulted by an “unknown group of males” at about 7.32pm, a police communications spokeswoman said.

He received minor injuries and was taken to Christchurch Hospital.

Police are making inquiries.
