Man suffered burns trying to fight a car fire in Fendalton

A man suffered burns to his hands when he tried to fight a car fire in Fendalton on Friday.

The car caught fire in the Fendalton Plunket Clinic at about 12.20pm.

He attempted to put the fire out but suffered burns and was taken to hospital in a moderate condition, a St John spokeswoman said.

The Harewood fire crew extinguished the minor blaze.

“The car is not destroyed . . . we also are unsure if it was just a passerby or the owner of the vehicle who tried to put it out,” a fire communications spokesman said.

It is not being treated as suspicious.
