From making paper out of algae, to creating sportwear from yaks wool, two students are bringing their ideas to life with considerable success.

Logan Williams and Stefan Warnaar took out first and third place, respectively, in Canterbury University’s Summer Startup Programme.

Mr Willaims came up with an initiative to use invasive algae didymo, also known as ‘rock snot’, to create biodegradable materials.

Mr Warnaar has created a line of sportswear made from yak wool, and his gear has seen a lot of success already.

The pair hope to carry on with their projects to turn them into sustainable businesses.
